Gopala Koduri – MusicMuni Labs – Ankur Capital

Gopala Koduri seen pitching MusicMuni Labs – that scales music education through leveraging state-of-the-art technologies. Their flagship product is the App Riyaz – an AI powered ‘pocket music guru’ that helps people sing better. It gives instant visual feedback showing the nature of mistakes made and guides the student towards improving faster. The company is a spin-off of Music Technology Group, UPF, Barcelona, Spain.

Gopala and his cofounder Sankalp Gulati, recently finished their PhD. Gopala’s work goes deep into understanding the intonation of musical intervals in different melodic contexts. Sankalp’s work is about mining meaningful melodic phrases that are characteristic to a given melodic context like raga. Both their PhD’s are on the real world commercial music recordings, making their work readily adaptable to their current pursuit with Riyaz. They have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

The third cofounder is Xavier Serra, founder and current director of a renowned music information research group – Music Technology Group (MTG), Barcelona, Spain (mtg.upf.edu/). He received his doctorate from Stanford University. Both Gopala and Sankalp are his students. Xavier is among the pioneers in this domain of research. He holds 21+ patents, and has collaborated with Yamaha and Korg in launching their most successful products. He has also overseen creation of several spinoffs like BMAT, Reactable systems and Voctro labs.
