Varsha Shridhar & Pavithra Gopalan – Molecular Solutions Care Health (MSCH)

Founder Varsha Shridhar pitching Startup Molecular Solutions Care Health (MSCH) – a lab that provides testing, innovates, builds capacity and performs research towards diagnosis and prognosis to improve health outcomes for humans, animals and the planet. The Startup has patented a method where patients can self draw blood and convert it into dry blood samples. This brings down the cost of blood transportation considerably. The Startup aims to scale this into a product.

“As a molecular biologist in a university setting, I always struggled against working on problems that did not have immediate potential for translation. When my family and I returned to India, I took a break from scientific research entirely and got trained as an antenatal and postnatal counselor and worked in a charitable hospital and volunteered in a BBMP UHC for about 1.5 years. This experience and discussions with multiple physicians, including my husband, underscored the huge differences in accessibility to good quality care and the fragmentation of the health system, not just for humans but also for animals and the environment,” says Varsha.

Molecular Solutions Care Health was founded in November 2016.

Founders:

Varsha Shridhar
PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine
She has worked extensively on infectious diseases and maternal and infant health.

Pavithra Gopalan
PhD, Microbiology, Arizona State University
After a bad experience at a diagnostic center in Chennai, upon her return to India, she felt she needed to set up a lab where people would feel comfortable visiting, where anxiety levels would go down, instead of up. She set up Care Health Diagnostics in Chennai in 2015 and then decided to team up with Varsha to set up Molecular Solutions Care Health to bring in molecular diagnostics in 2016.

The Startup’s vision is to be a lean lab that works on solving “wicked” problems that make a positive difference in improving planetary health.
