Connecting Ideas With Money – Sumit Mishra – Trip Store Holidays

On the 11th of February 2022, at the Connecting Ideas With Money session at Lounge47, founder Sumit Mishra pitched Mumbai-based Trip Store Holidays – that connects travelers and tour operators on a online marketplace enabling buying and selling of multi-day tours. The startup is at the early revenue stage.

Trip Store is a web platform connecting tour operators and travellers and enabling tours to be booked online. Travelers can book over 1000+ tours from 100+ verified tour operators across 20 travel themes. Trip Store Holidays is a one-stop-shop for all tour packages from 01 day to 30 days.

“With over 100 Million tour bookings, less than 15% travelers book their tour Package online. Around 30% operators have online presence, but >10% operators are selling tours online. 68% of travelers visit at least 11 websites or offline stores and compare minimum 3 tour packages before booking a tour. There is a lack of trust for booking online with unknown operators. 1000’s of pre-purchased inventory go unsold resulting in millions in losses to tour operators,” says Sumit when describing the problem the startup is set to solve.

“So in 2019 my mom dad were attending a wedding in Jaipur and wanted to travel to Rajasthan before attending the wedding. They prefer travelling in a group as they meet new people, it is fun and you make new friends. Fun fact.. I started dating my wife on a Mcleodganj trip. So we tried finding a tour for them but couldn’t find, it took me more than 7 days even after running a travel agency for 9 years, that is when I tried to search for a platform or website but I couldn’t find it. And then in 2020 we were ready to launch Trip Store Holidays.”

The startup has done over 2.65cr in total sales and in the last quarter of 2021 they were able to achieve sales of 1.13cr with 365 travelled passengers. Trip Store Holidays charges a commission for every successful booking from the tour operator which ranges from 5-20%. The average ticket size is around 2 lakhs with an average of 3 people/booking.
