At the Connecting Ideas With Money session that took place on the 12th of May, 2023 founder Rana Vivek Singh pitched Big Buddy, an early-stage Bangalore-based Edtech startup. Bigbuddy is an AI-powered platform that simplifies the process of creating professional video. It allows anyone to create high-quality video content without prior experience in video editing or production. The platform is designed for content creators, educators, and trainers who want to share their knowledge with others through video content.

“The problem that Bigbuddy aims to solve is the complexity and time consuming nature of creating high-quality video content. During our R&D phase we realised the biggest problems of content creators is video editing. Many even left their journey coz of this. These are the following big-issues in video editing these creators face…lack of required skill set….highly time consuming…30 mins of video requires 4 hours to get edited…high dependency on video-editor…high cost,” says Rana.
“So, how we are solving it is that Bigbuddy has created two platforms, one for recording the videos, another where users can see there edited video and enhance it further if required. For video editing Bigbuddy uses a combination of natural language processing …NLP, computer vision, and machine learning…ML.. algorithms to automate the editing and structuring of video courses.”
How it works:
Audio and Video Analysis: When a user records content on Bigbuddy.in, the AI analyses the audio and video tracks and separates them into individual segments.
Transcription: The AI transcribes the audio segments using NLP algorithms, which convert speech to text. This allows the AI to understand the content of the course and segment it into smaller, more manageable pieces.
Auto-Editing: The AI automatically edits the video by identifying the most relevant parts of each segment and trimming out any unnecessary parts. It can also adjust the audio levels and add background music, if desired.
Structuring: The AI uses the transcribed text and video content to structure the course into individual lessons, topics, and modules. It can also generate a table of contents, slides, and quizzes to make the course more engaging and interactive.
Output: Once the editing and structuring are complete, the AI outputs a polished, professional-looking video course that’s ready to publish.
By automating these tasks, Bigbuddy.in makes it possible for anyone to create high-quality video courses without requiring any prior experience in video editing or production.
The founders were struck by how time consuming video editing is and they decided to solve this problem.
In March 2022, Rana Vivek was requested by hs college professor to edit videos that required repeated editing. This experience made him research the market and realize there is a huge demand for automated video editing. Development on BigBuddy started in August 2022 and by December 2022 the team had a prototype. They launched user testing and in Feb 2023 they launched BigBuddy commercially (B2B). In March they got their first paid customer.
Team:
The founding team of Bigbuddy consists of founders Pawan Kumar, Rana Vivek Singh who are distant relatives. In May 2023, Pawan was supposed to join Zerodha but Rana convinced him to work on the BigBuddy idea instead.
