Brothers Kailash and Devesh Nichani are seen pitching their Startup – Glassic [www.glassic.in], that has set out to sell “great quality, good-looking affordable and fun-to-buy” eyewear online.
Both Kailash and Devesh graduated from Loyola College, Chennai however took different paths before finally working at their family business – optical retail. Devesh unlike Kailash worked at Deloitte and Google first, before joining the family business. This led them both to understand the eyewear business well and helped them identify pain points that they then both set out to solve through their Startup – Glassic.
Eyewear manufacturing is a monopoly and 80% of the market is controlled by one player – Luxoticca. Glasses in India therefore cost upwards of Rs.5000, making them unaffordable to many Indians. Glassic aims to solve this disparity by designing, manufacturing & selling branded quality eyewear directly to customers at under Rs.3000. The Startup aims to bridge the gap between functional & fashion conscious buyers in the $3 billion Indian eyewear market.
“Our vision is to dominate the affordable eyewear market & cultivate repeatability by creating affordable, superior quality products & position Glassic as an omni channel lifestyle brand”, say the founders.
