Serial internet entrepreneur and “Father of India’s E-Commerce”, Founder & CEO of Indiaplaza, Mr. K Vaitheeswaran, is known for his pioneering work related to online shopping. His foray into Ecommerce started in 1999, and in 2001, he cofounded Fabmall, India’s first integrated online & brick-and-mortar retail store. The Fabmall physical chain of grocery stores was sold to the Aditya Birla Group in 2006 and is the current “More” chain of retail outlets. In 2007 Fabmall.com acquired the US Indiaplaza brand. Prior to these E-commerce ventures, he spent 14 years working for the Murugappa Group & Wipro in business development roles.
Mr. Vaitheeswaran’s journey as an entrepreneur has been a long and interesting one and the many struggles and successes that he has had along the way will certainly offer much learning to the Startup community.
“My Experiences as an Entrepreneur” turned out to be an engaging private conversation between a veteran celebrity entrepreneur and an audience full of curiosity. Nuggets of learning mined from years of blood, sweat and tears as an entrepreneur were shared.
“Be Stupid and don’t be afraid to dream”, said Mr. Vaitheeswaran. “You will never find out if a business succeeds unless you try it” and “Only the business fails, not the entrepreneurs that built it”.
